Social Listening

I chose to talk about DB Motosports & Auto Repair, LLC for my blog post. This is a local company that I found while doing some competitive research for our marketing plan, and found they had some reviews that would be a good basis for learning from.

DB Motosports & Auto Repair is a family owned business and values high quality workmanship. The owner has worked for dealerships before which is where he gained his experience.

In these posts, the owner is trying to show his appreciation for the loyalty that people are showing towards his company. He is also attempting to reward them, making them feel an obligation to bring their work back to his company when they are needing services that he offers.
The posts that I have included relate to what we have talked about in class because this is a very small business that does not have a large financial backing to spend a lot on marketing. So when something happens, such as a bad review in this case, they are going to have to do what they can to keep that one bad review from bringing new customers in. Like Gary Vaynerchuk talks about in Jab Jab Jab, Right Hook, Facebook and social media can be a very influential factor in marketing.  For a company this small, the brand that they have needs to be maintained as well as possible.
The owner of DB Motosports & Auto Repair, LLC makes it a point to respond to all the reviews on his company. Whether they are good or bad, he always replies to either say thank you or find out why there was a bad review left on the company. I personally think that it was a good idea to respond to this particular post because he actually never met with the person that left the review. I think it maintains the personal aspect of the company when you respond to the reveiws.

If I was the brand manager, I would have responded in a very similar way. They handled it quite well by explaining why they had done what was done. However, if it was me as the manager I probably wouldn’t have included such a long explanation. It was fairly evident from the message that the owner left that the man was not very professional when dealing with the company and that is no way to treat someone and then expect respect back. I think this was the right thing to do, especially when customer relations and employees are an important value for your company.

Upon completing this assignment I have found that there is never a right response to someone leaving a bad review on your company, there are only ways that you can try to reverse the impact of the negative review.

Ben & Jerry's Latest Marketing Strategy

If you enjoy a nice big bowl of ice cream while relaxing on the couch watching a movie then this is the
post for you! On January 16th Ben & Jerry’s posted a tweet that serves as an excellent example of
different ways that companies can market their product to increase popularity and sales.
his particular example is unique because of the route that Ben & Jerry’s decided to take in releasing a
new flavor of ice cream. Ben & Jerry’s saw an opportunity in the cultural popularity with Netflix and
decided to capitalize on it.
Netflix is a nationwide known brand known for streaming movies. With the services that Netflix offers,
there is a “viral catchphrase” which is very popular. Netflix and Chill. This works perfectly along with
Ben and Jerry’s because the perfect “chill” snack that pairs with a movie from Netflix is there new flavor
that incorporates peanut butter ice cream, fudge brownie bits, and pretzel swirl. This is a strategic way to
market to the public because with the amount of people that already know of Netflix will be more inclined
to want to try out this new flavor and therefore increasing the brand awareness for Ben & Jerry’s new
addition to their line-up.
Core values that Ben & Jerry’s run by are social, product and economic. By adding the Netflix
and Chilll’d flavor to their stores, they are inviting the social norm of eating ice cream while watching
your favorite movie. It really is a good way to increase your brand awareness because many people
will search for Netflix on the internet and then see Ben & Jerry’s new flavor they are likely to hit the link
and check it out. Many companies have been doing this same thing with Netflix and it has turned out to
be a very successful thing to do, and now even for Ben & Jerry’s. If I was the brand manager for
Ben & Jerry’s I would do research and find out how people are using our product. In this case ice cream,
so when are people taking the time to tear into a carton of ice cream? I think that they hit this one right by
emphasizing on one of the most common ways to pass time for society.
